Job Description:

The Department of Information Systems runs undergraduate and postgraduate courses and programmes in the Faculty of Commerce and has a thriving research culture. The department seeks to appoint a full-time permanent Departmental Manager. The main purpose of this position is to manage the Human Resources, Operations, Finance, Physical Resources and Academic Administration for the department.  The successful candidate will be involved in high-level decision making and actively engage and facilitate various departmental activities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage finances of the department including the procurement, budget cycle and budget control
  • Ensure compliance with relevant departmental, faculty and university policies, practices, and procedures
  • Provide administrative, strategic, and operational oversight of course administrative duties (e.g., scheduling, timetable coordination, calendar update, handling student queries)
  • Manage administration staff: recruit, induct, evaluate, allocate portfolios, mentor, and provide direction
  • Arrange logistics for contractors and visitors
  • Develop, implement, and manage appropriate departmental operational systems including space allocation
  • Any other tasks and duties that may be appropriate for this position
  • Coordinate academic and examination administration

Qualification & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • 4 years’ relevant academic administrative experience in a mid- or senior administrative level position
  • Knowledge of UCT policies and procedures (Central Finance & Central HR
  • Proven experience in managing and leading staff
  • Demonstrable experience in working with learning management systems (e.g., Vula)
  • A relevant tertiary qualification at NQF6 level
