Job Description:

This post will provide psychosocial services under the supervision of a social worker within the context of an HIV Priority Populations Prevention programme focusing on adolescent girls and young women. This will include screening and assessment, and referral to social worker for therapeutic social work services, within the PPPrev Programme. The social auxiliary worker will also conduct structural programmes addressing HIV prevention and gender-based violence, as well as engage with relevant stakeholders within government departments, with partners and in the social work field. (This is a contract position renewable based on funding)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Records and maintains accurate and detailed patient information and interventions and keeps statistics in order to submit as required
  • Educates patients and their families
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Informs patients and their families on eligibility criteria for social support grants
  • Attends training and workshops as part of staff development
  • Provides structural programmes including SASA
  • Networks with all relevant stakeholders and implements an effective referral system to ensure effective service delivery
  • Submits monthly reports to the supervisor
  • Lobbies and advocates for patient’s needs
  • Ensures that families receive optimal care and holistic psychological support, etc.
  • Assists with the identification of advocacy issues
  • Supports Social Workers in assessing the needs of AGYW and parent’s/care givers and guardians and implements effective support strategies
  • Assist in implementation of support groups

Qualification & Experience:

  • Proficiency in English & IsiZulu languages
  • Grade 12 / matric or equivalent with a certificate in Social Auxiliary Work from a recognised college or institution
  • 2 years related experience and training
  • Valid code 8 driver’s licence and own transport advantageous
  • Registered with SACSSP (South African Council for Social Service Professions)
  • Clear criminal record
