Job Description:

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to repair and maintain existing infrastructure and help with the development of new infrastructure by providing approved building standards.

Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure effective management of fleet, machinery, store and workshop;
• Conduct effective facility and infrastructure management;
• Ensure proper management of materials; and
• Ensure effective provision of health safety and risk management services
• Conduct irrigation maintenance services;
• Ensure effective workshop maintenance and repairs;

Job Requirements:

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: Trade Certificate in plumbing, building, irrigation systems, and project management is essential; extensive experience in facilities management, plumbing, building, irrigation systems, and project management is essential;  comprehensive knowledge about buildings, and approval of building standards; good knowledge of government human resources, procurement, and financial management policies, procedures, and processes; advanced planning, organizing, and problem solving skills; ability to work under pressure whilst being safety conscious; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) will be advantageous. The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.  

Qualification & Experience:

This position requires a National Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Facilities Management, or equivalent and relevant qualification at NQF 6. Advanced Diploma or Degree in Facilities Management with NQF 7 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 5 years of experience in Artisanship.
