Job Purpose
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Western Cape Government has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, pro-active, suitably qualified and competent individual to join the Energy unit and the Green Economy sub-programme, to operate in this dynamic, exciting and fast paced environment. The energy transition presents unique challenges and opportunities for South Africa and the Western Cape including new energy technology and services that are renewable and lower carbon. The opportunity is to work as part of the team in co-ordinating and collaborating with partners to discover and develop solutions to address both urgent short-term energy issues and long-term systemic change towards increased energy resilience for the Western Cape. This includes strategy development, stakeholder coordination and relationship management, conceptualisation and research, pre-project implementation and project management. Examples of current energy unit projects include the Municipal Energy Resilience project which looks at public and private sector approaches to energy including innovative finance, regulation, technology adoption and energy sector and market development. This post is stationed in Cape Town.
Minimum Requirements
An appropriate 3-year tertiary qualification (B-Degree or higher qualification) in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or other Engineering Economics, Finance, Business, Legal, Sustainability or Environmental Sciences; A minimum of years 3 management level experience; A minimum of 5 years project management experience.
Recommendation
Relevant post-graduate academic qualification in energy or related field; Proven experience in Economic Development and Energy and/or green technologies sector; A valid driving license (Code B or higher).

Key Performance Areas Develop, co-ordinate and manage strategies relevant to the Green Economy sub-directorate; Develop, coordinate and implement Unit’s projects and programmes aligned to the overall Energy Strategy; Manage and co-ordinate stakeholders and institutions as it relates to overall themes and projects under the sub- directorate’s responsibility; Management of the human resources of the sub directorate to achieve the pre-determined performance indicators and service delivery imperatives; Plan the sub-directorate’s budget and manage expenditure, through responsible implementation of policies, practices and decisions in order to achieve unit objectives effectively and efficiently.

Remuneration
All-inclusive salary package of R 766 584 per annum (Salary level 11)
Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed.
