Job Description:
To manage the University’s official social media accounts and their respective communities in order to enhance the Wits brand and reputation in the social media space, and thus to be the voice of the Wits brand.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and design ongoing posts and adapt appropriately for various social media platforms
- Be an innovator: Stay abreast of all technical and content developments and advances in social media to bring fresh ideas and innovative developments to the social strategy;
- Identify social media tactics and adapt content for different social media platforms to engage, inform and build social media equity for the Wits brand
- Manage the social media channels of the brand (as a minimum, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Instagram – both paid and organic)
- Prepare management reports on social campaigns undertaken and implemented
- Understand reputation management in order to be able to identify potential reputation damaging conversations and to respond accordingly
- Work closely with both the Marketing and Comms team to look at ways in which social media can work within wider campaigns for the University
- Create and write social copy, communicate with the public through comments
- Have expert knowledge about content and social media communication to generate content, optimise platform technical capabilities as well as be able to use social media analytics and apply best practice
Job Requirements:
- Stay up to date with the latest social media best, new platforms and technologies
- Use social media integration skills through Meta for business
- Design skills (for social media and website banners)
- Can use the following editing tools: Adobe, Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition, Premier Pro and After Effects or other similar programmes
- A great understanding of media monitoring tools and scheduling tools (Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Falcon, Meltwater, Buffer etc)
- Have an awareness of key influencers in the industry and make valuable connections.
- Short video and photography skills (mobile optimisation)
- Adapts easily to changes in the social media, digital communication and algorithms
- Demonstrates a good understanding of the South African landscape and issues that affect students
- Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this role
- A good understanding of social media language and student trends in the education sector
- A great understanding of topics that are culturally sensitive and not suitable for social media (LGBTQIA, gender, race, politics etc)
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, determine own work priorities, work independently and as part of a team.
- Available to work over-time and on weekends
