Job Description:

Senior Resident teachers lead instruction and planning for subject or grade level classrooms and are responsible for driving a rigorous, enquiry-based learning environment the Nova Pioneer way. Senior Resident teachers are supported by Deans of Instruction who partner with them in their growth journey – observing lessons, providing feedback and coaching. Senior Resident teachers support and mentor apprentice teachers. See below to learn more about the teaching model at Nova Pioneer.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Set and communicate rigorous and ambitious goals for all students and provide student feedback so they internalize it
  • Run academic support sessions for your students
  • Fully participate in opportunities for professional growth including Humanities team meetings and reflections, professional development meetings, instructional coaching, and organisation wide learning and reflection
  • Infuse joy and passion for learning into lessons so that students are excited about and invested in their academic excellence
  • Observe, coach and be a model teacher for Apprentice/ junior teachers
  • Attend frequent feedback meetings with Deans to enhance teaching practices
  • Designing impactful lessons
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress. Use assessment data to adjust instructional content and delivery techniques accordingly
  • Lead with growing content/ skills/ assessment competency in apprentice/ junior Humanities teachers

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to lead a classroom independently
  • You have a deep understanding of children and you know how to connect with the specific age group that you teach
  • You are a team player and you enjoy group problem solving
  • You love teaching and care deeply about the success of each and every student
  • You have an understanding of and passion for enquiry based, student-centered learning
  • You are adept at using technology for instruction

Qualification & Experience:

  • Excellent content knowledge*
  • At least on Honours degree, preferably a Masters degree in History or a related discipline (e.g. Politics or International Relations) + a PGCE specialising in Senior + FET Phase
  • SACE registered
  • IGCSE/ AS/ A Level History teaching experience is a strong recommendation
  • Humanities (History and Geography) teaching experience and at least experience in teaching History up to Grade 12 level in the CAPS/ IEB system.
