Job Responsibilities:

Shift work in Emergency Departments of the joint academic and clinical Department of Emergency Medicine. Internal rotation through both Emergency Department units in the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child and Helen Joseph Hospital complex. Manage a variety of Emergency Medicine clinical cases including medical, surgical, trauma, paediatric and women’s health emergencies. Promote evidence-based patient care. Clinical supervision and training of junior staff. Participate in departmental academic and research activities. Administrative duties pertinent to the practice of Emergency Medicine (including medico-legal documentation). Commuted over-time is compulsory.

Job Requirements:

Appropriate qualification (MBBCh or equivalent) that allows registration with HPCSA as Medical Practitioner with Independent Practice at time of starting employment. Candidate must be registered with HPCSA as Medical Practitioner with Independent Practice and have proof of current paid annual registration. COURSES: Advanced Life Support courses must be current (allowance of 3 months post-expiration) • ACLS • PALS/APLS • ATLS/ITLS/EMATT. EXPERIENCE: Prior experience of 6 months in Emergency Medicine in an academic Emergency Department (ED) is required. BENEFICIAL: *Candidates with an FCEM Part 1 Primary exams and/or DipPEC and/or DA will score higher in shortlisting and interviews (RMMCH ED and HJH ED).
