Job Responsibilities:
Provide supervision and leadership within the Department of Surgery Perioperative care Unit at DGMAH. Organize academic, research and service functions regarding perioperative care, i.e. assessing surgical patients presenting for major surgery, preoperative risk management and optimization, post-operative care of high-risk patients, development of setting-specific clinical pathway guidance, perioperative patient-level routine data collection to establish a data repository for research and clinical audit, teaching on perioperative medicine to undergraduate and postgraduate students, consistent research output in perioperative research
Job Requirements:
Minimum educational qualifications: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in General Surgery. Registration with a professional council: Current Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in General Surgery. Experience: A minimum of three (3) years appropriate work experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Surgical Care-related discipline. National academic standing in an appropriate discipline. Recommended Requirements Doctoral degree, significant research experience, strong organizational skills, and experience in perioperative care (pre- intra- and postoperative care). The successful incumbent will be required to perform commuted overtime in the Department of Surgery
