Job Responsibilities:

Overall strategic leadership, operational management and Clinical governance of the Orthopaedics Department. Have a vision to become a world class centre for training, teaching and learning, clinical service, research and innovation in Orthopaedics .Clinical Governance: Participating in clinical service delivery commitments of the Department including commuted overtime at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital (DGMAH). Ensure availability and compliance of the Departmental guidelines and protocols. Ensure implementation and practice of Batho Pele Principles, quality assurance programs, complaints management and redress with the aim of improving clinical outcomes and patient experience of care. Overall academic responsibility for teaching and learning, which includes guidance and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Orthopaedics, at SMU/DGMAH complex. Overall responsibility for research which includes leading, mentoring and participating in the design, execution, supervision, publication and translation of research in priority areas. Expanding and strengthening collaboration with health services, communities and other stakeholders. Operational management of human resources and finances of the Department. Manage risk in the work place. Have regular written reports to the supervisor on the governance issues related to the department. Contributing to the goals and functioning of the University and the Gauteng Health Department through active involvement in the senior management structures of the University and the Hospital Clinical Management meetings

Job Requirements:

MBChB & MMed degree or a relevant postgraduate qualification in Orthopaedics. Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. A minimum of seven (7) years appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist. Must have abundance of proven management experience within an academic environment. Must have proven expertise and experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training and supervision in Orthopaedics. Must have been an examiner in undergraduate and postgraduate examinations. Has participated in convening and conducting such examinations. Independent Research experience with publications, peer-reviewed journals and a PhD will be added advantage .Research output of at least 3 original publications in peer reviewed scientist journals
