Job Responsibilities:

Provide leadership within the department, hospital, and university in the provision of clinical care to patients, teaching and learning of under-and post graduate students. Conduct appropriate research and perform the required administrative processes to ensure the department meets its objectives. Provide Clinical Care: Promote the care of women to meet the core health standards in line with Batho Pele Principles. Align the needs of the population served with the capacity of facilities in the hospital. Ensure that health indicators are addressed for rates of caesarean sections, maternal deaths, and surgical deaths. Provision of Teaching and Learning: Ensure that both under and post graduate students are taught the required skills and provided with opportunities to learn, discuss, and be examined. Promote the values of teaching and learning as set out in the University of Witwatersrand Strategic Plans. Conduct and publish own research. Promote a culture of research within the department. Facilitate collaborations within the hospital, University, Country and internationally. Promote Research and funding. Ensure the processes of the hospital and University are upheld. Manage the safety and security of all documents. To ensure M&M process continue. Manage the retention and renewal of staff. Allocate resources fairly and in line with all principles outlined

Job Requirements:

Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (M.MED – Obs & Gynae) and/or Fellowship of the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of South Africa – FCOG (SA). Proof of current registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. A recognized diploma or subspecialty in a branch of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of South Africa will be an added advantage. A minimum of seven (7) completed years of relevant experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology is mandatory. At least two Masters students supervised to completion. Evidence of accredited publications record
