Job Description:

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure proper incident closeout and communication of learnings arising from incidents
• Participation in in-the field safety coaching and ensuring that Project Managers drive the safety management system.
• Ensure SHE officer legal inspections are up to date and on standard
• Provide guidance and advise to HODs on what should be done within the current Safety Management system to address trends identified
• Facilitate investigations
• Implement ORMP (Operational Risk Management Process) and LFI (Learning from Incidents) on Projects
• Ensure investigations are up to date and of good quality
• Coach SHE officers on quality inspections
• Ensure that weekly reporting and all statistics are accurate and in accordance with the Kumba Projects Safety Management System requirements.
• Drive the Safety Management system and Risk Management process continuously on all projects

Qualification & Experience:

• OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 audit training will be an added advantage
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Degree in Safety Management, Risk Management or equivalent technical degree OR a National higher Diploma
• Experience as Chief Safety Officer will be an added advantage
• Minimum 5 years in a SHE environment
• Experience in internal auditing
• Experience in daily SHE management in a construction and / or mine environment
• A Relevant professional registration/certification will be an added advantage
• Drivers Licence
