Job Description:

As a Sectional Ventilation Officer, you will be responsible for the maintenance of ventilation systems to ensure that from analysing surveys done by the ventilation officers, meaningful recommendation is given to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the compilation and reviewing of mine specific ventilation and occupational hygiene related Standards and Procedures, as well as assisting with the statutory MCOP required by the DMR
  • Participate in planning meetings and other ad hoc meetings on all matters pertaining to Ventilation, emergency preparedness, underground explosions and fire risks
  • That legal requirements, AAP standards and policies are adhered to
  • Undertake trouble shooting and recommend strategies to rectify unsafe conditions
  • Provide the immediate supervisor with information to ensure a safe and healthy work environment
  • Conduct risk assessments and participate in audits
  • Compliance measurements in terms of Section 5.1, 9, 11, 12, 16 , 17.19 and 7.4 of the Mine Health and Safety Act (Occupational Health Risk
  • Assessment and Monitoring) and the Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene Regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act pertaining to monitoring and reporting at Business Area level
  • Compile ventilation lay-outs for 1, 3-6 monthly planning
  • Achievement of legal compliance in area of responsibility

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of ventilation simulation modeling software (Ventsim or Vuma) (preferred)
  • Computer literate in MS Office (essential)
  • Associated or fellow member – Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa
  • Brigadesman with Mines Rescue Services
  • Advanced Fire Protection Certificate
  • Undergraduate qualification in relevant field
  • SAP and other specialised technical programs
  • Certificate in Ventilation Modeling and Simulation (Ventsim or Vuma)

Qualification & Experience:

  • Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
  • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4
  • Intermediate certificate in Mine Environmental Control
  • Minimum of 5 years experiences in a trackless underground mining environment or metalliferous underground mining environment (essential)
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience
